You'll need: 2 black tea bags, juice of half a lemon, 1 to 2 teaspoons of SodaStream Lemonade or Lemon Lime Drink Mix or honey or sugar syrup, ice, and fresh sparkling water from your SodaStream®.

Brew the tea in a cup of hot water for 3 to 4 minutes, then let it cool completely. Stir in the lemon juice and sweetener, pour over a tall glass of ice, and top with sparkling water. Taste before serving, since lemons vary in punch. Adjust the sweetness to taste.

2. Mint Green Tea Fizz

The lighter sibling. Cleaner on the palate, gentler on the sugar, perfect for warmer afternoons.

You'll need: 2 green tea bags, a small handful of fresh mint leaves, 1 teaspoon of honey, ice, and sparkling water.

Brew the green tea for 2 minutes (any longer and it turns bitter), drop the mint leaves in for the last 30 seconds, then strain and cool. Stir in the honey while it's still warm so it dissolves cleanly. Fill a glass with ice, pour the cooled tea over, and finish with sparkling water.

Fruity and Floral Sparkling Iced Teas

These three lift the recipe base with fruit, flowers, and a touch of presentation. Same five-minute effort, slightly more flavour ambition.

DIY Peach Iced Tea

1. Peach Iced Tea

The café-style favourite. Naturally sweet, easy to make, and the iced tea recipe most likely to convert a bottled-drink loyalist.

You'll need: 2 black tea bags, a few peach slices (fresh or canned), 2 tablespoons peach juice or syrup from the can, ice, and sparkling water.

Brew the tea and cool it. Drop the peach slices straight into a tall glass, add the peach juice, fill with ice, and pour in the cooled tea. Top with sparkling water and stir gently to combine. Fresh peaches give a brighter flavour; canned peaches give a sweeter, easier finish.

2. Hibiscus Iced Tea

The showpiece. Deep ruby colour, tart-sweet flavour, the iced tea you make when guests are coming over.

You'll need: 1 tablespoon dried hibiscus flowers (or 2 hibiscus tea bags), a squeeze of lime, 1 to 2 teaspoons light syrup, ice, and sparkling water.

Steep the hibiscus in hot water for 5 minutes, then strain and let it cool. Stir in the syrup and a squeeze of lime to balance the tartness. Pour over a glass of ice and finish with sparkling water. The lime is what makes this one sing.

3. Jasmine Honey Iced Tea

The most elegant of the five. Floral, fragrant, and dressed-up enough to serve at a Sunday brunch.

You'll need: 2 jasmine tea bags, 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey, ice, a thin lemon slice (optional), and sparkling water.

Brew the jasmine tea in hot water for 3 minutes, then dissolve the honey while the tea is still warm. Cool completely before serving, otherwise the bubbles will collapse on contact. Pour over a tall glass of ice, top with sparkling water, and finish with a lemon slice on the rim.
